Hoje, estive no Hošek Contemporary para assistir a performance de Iacopo Loliva – Between Heart and Hole.
Obrigado, Iacopo. Meu cu agradece sua dança.
Today, I was at Hošek Contemporary to watch Iacopo Loliva’s performance—“Between Heart and Hole.” A blend of dance, pornography, and affection. Affection for oneself, for understanding the nuances of one’s own existence and the paths that connect the heart and the butthole. From a post-pornography perspective, Iacopo presents a very contemporary vision of what I have been calling “Pornography of Affection.” Starting from the hole, the artist draws a very real parallel between relationships in this world of apps and fragile connections that the heart often stubbornly chooses to believe in (fairy tales are just fairy tales). And between one—the heart—and the other—the hole—Iacopo chooses the hole. And I, too, made that choice once. After so many romantic disappointments following my heart, when I met my partner, I listened to my butthole, which told me: “You’re a whore and that’s not going to change; choose someone who wants to be a whore alongside you, and the heart will follow.” I listened to my butthole; seven years later, we’re two whores building a life together, guided by our anal desires and loving each other as individuals and as a couple.
In his performance, the artist exposes his own butthole to present another possibility of affection. Just as post-pornography comes to show us another possibility of pornographic culture beyond the mainstream porn industry with its prejudices, machismo, patriarchy, and violence. The hole as a high-tech counter-sexual tool, as Preciado once said, but going further, the ass as a pornosexualigraphic pedagogical tool to break with utopian ideas of a society that believes in princes, princesses, and happy endings. The butthole as political leadership in pursuit not only of pleasure—even if it comes from pain—but of public policy. If we stop to think about it, many of the rights we’ve already won were guided to us by the butthole. Holes were fucked so that antiretrovirals, PrEP, PEP, Doxi-PEP, vaccines, etc., could emerge. Holes were fucked so that rights like civil unions and adoption by same-sex couples could emerge. And who can deny that it will not be the butthole that is responsible for the revolution taking shape toward a future of peace and without war. When the hole is legitimized as the true heir to the soul, rather than the heart, we will experience the great global transformation. But as long as we’re thinking of another world from the heart, we’ll keep failing; despite its good intentions, the heart doesn’t fully understand what it means to transform pain into pleasure. Most of the time, it clings too tightly to the pain and forgets that it’s pleasure that moves us.
On stage, Iacopo shifts between the poetry of emotional existence and the political protest of the body in search of a freedom that is, above all, collective. The hole may be an individual fighter, but its victories belong to the community.
I really enjoyed what I saw on stage with Iacopo today. Above all, I loved feeling like I was part of an hole-to-hole connection: between my butthole and Iacopo’s butthole, in search of something even greater. The hole revolution is all about connections.
Thanks, Iacopo. My butthole thanks you for your dancing.
